Thinking about Beginnings - The Waterpark Mom
Thinking about Beginnings for Work in Progress
The Waterpark Mom – Part of the Avocado Grove Stories
All my friends are coming over to finish getting ready, but
I lose track of time. What my boyfriend
did happened days ago, and I get caught up in a fantasy fiction novel. And this becomes a kind of patch between what
he said and the friends coming over. So
I stick with the original plan: my boyfriend is taking me to prom, and I focus
on what Jeremy the Cyclops is doing in the fantasy. He plays with time and controls it. He isn’t sure whether it’s safe to visit his
ship one last time. Will Aphrodite come
back? She dumped him. He’s checking the weather outside…
I close the book at the part where Jeremy is adrift on a
remote island, and Aphrodite takes her father’s advice and has a blast with the
sons and daughters of gods and goddesses.
Jeremy spends a whole chapter trying to win her back, and this is where
I start dreaming about a new story for them.
Jeremy and Aphrodite go dancing. They go to prom, but on Saturn. They check out the rings. You can slide around the rings – kind of like
a Slip-n-Slide but without needing any water so they won’t mess up their fancy
clothes. But will they get lost in space? Aphrodite hears this could happen. But they go anyway, and she doesn’t worry
much about falling, her dad is Zeus, and he would find them. She turns her attention to Jeremy’s shoes.
“Who knew a Cyclops could do fashion?”
And she goes on about Jeremy’s dark purple dress shoes. You wouldn’t know they aren’t black unless
you are really a god or have god-like eye sight.
“They’re vegan too.” Jeremy tells her Polyphemus has one
meat free night every week. And he’s
thinking about adding a second one.
And they live happily ever after…
At no point in their space fantasy love story does Jeremy
call Aphrodite and tell her he’s going to Saturn with someone else.
