Meds – Y.  Beast Sightings – Y.  Conversations with Waterpark Mom – Y.

Marianne’s shoe party happened.  And I did what I remembered, I pulled out napkins and looked all over her pantry for greasy chips, salty crackers, and spray-on cheese to put out, but all I found were boxes of healthy, whole grain food stuffs with the word, “ancient” on them.  In the fridge, make believe dip, the kind with no dairy, no nuts, no eggs, no anything in it.  Not Waterpark Mom snacks – or at least the stuff she used to eat when she entertained with dad.

“What happened is your fault,“ Beast said.  Jeremy agreed.

“I didn’t know she’s been on a health kick.”

“She’s replaced beer with wine – but this hasn’t changed anything.” Sis said.

I threw my shoes at Sis when she sauntered into our room and glared at Beast.

“You weren’t aiming for her, right?” Jeremy asked.

“Leave me alone.”

I meant it for all of them – Beast, Jeremy, and Sis.  The silence in the hall told me Sis, at least, retreated downstairs.  I imagined Beast and Jeremy were still in the room.

“You didn’t see what Marianne said or the face she made, when Waterpark Mom came back.”  I almost said how I helped with snacks, but I didn’t.

“Maybe this is why flying shoes happen,” Beast said.

“Or you’ve drunk too much wine,” Marianne said.

“How long have you been here?”  Had she watched the shoes fly and heard what I said?

“Who’s Jeremy?” Marianne asked.  “Why did you call him a beast?”

If there’s anything positive about any of this, Marianne does not put together who Beast and Jeremy are.
