Edits from The Avocado Grove October and June
October 3 Emily's Diary became October 15 in the book with
minor changes.  The June entry didn't
make it in.
Today was my first day at the new school.  This guy named Mickey asked me, "Are you
bored too?"  This line is
crazy.  Want to listen to
this?"  These two skinny, good
looking girls stood in front of us.  They
argued about whether or not to eat the brownie or the Oreo.  I didn't get why he wasn't asking one of them
to listen to tunes.  Maybe he didn't
notice the hamburgers and fries, the brownie and the Oreo pie on my plate or my
head of fake hair.  Or maybe he was blind
or curious or mean.
"Yeah," I said to Mickey about listening to
music.  I didn't try to hide my
tray.  I didn't tell him about my real
disease.  It isn't cancer.  Sometimes the lunch tray looks piled high,
other days, most days, though, it isn't filled with much.
I'm not sure, but I think he likes me.
June ?
I get now why Brownie and Oreo didn't start a fight with me.
They couldn't see him, and I was just
some fat girl in line with crude pink hair.
I didn't look cool or like anyone they would want to know.
